Sankt Johann in Tirol issued a series of Heller notgeld in 1920 during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy. Municipal authorities across Tyrol were effectively left to solve the small-denomination problem themselves, and Wagner in Innsbruck became one of the more active regional printers serving these local emergency issues.
The JPR0898b designation suggests this is a sub-variant within the Sankt Johann series — likely differing from JPR0898a in a detail of color, serial numbering, or text setting rather than a wholly new design.
