Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large cross of the Order of Christ at center, its four limbs extending to trefoil finials and flanked by quatrefoil ornaments occupying each quarter of the field. The peripheral circular legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES is distributed around the rim, punctuated by small ornamental stops between the words. A milled border frames the entire composition. The execution is consistent with the characteristic Portuguese colonial silver coinage style of the 18th century, with bold relief on the cross and crisp lettering throughout.
