正面描述 Crude hammered field of heavily worn copper, bearing the remnants of a legend and design elements characteristic of the 'Januadini' coinage struck under João VI for Portuguese India. The surface exhibits extensive corrosion and wear consistent with circulation use, with faint traces of the royal cypher or armillar sphere motif barely discernible through the heavy patination. The irregular flan, typical of hammered coinage produced at the Goa mint in this period, displays a dark reddish-brown patina with areas of green cuprite. Legends, if present, are largely illegible on this example due to the advanced state of wear.

附加信息

The "Januadini" designation on this issue derives from a corruption of "João" as rendered phonetically in local Konkani usage — a linguistic artifact that made its way into the numismatic record and stuck. João VI issued this copper coinage for Goa during a period when he was ruling from Rio de Janeiro, having relocated the Portuguese court to Brazil in 1808 following Napoleon's invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. The Goa mint was therefore producing coins for a king who had never set foot in the colony and was administering it from across the Atlantic.

The broad date range reflects intermittent striking rather than continuous production.
