Reverse description The reverse displays the large armillar sphere (esfera armilar), the dynastic emblem of the Portuguese Crown, rendered in the bold, simplified style characteristic of the Goa mint's hammered copper coinage of João VI. The armillar sphere is depicted prominently in the central field, with an associated numeral or countermark visible in the upper left quadrant, exhibiting green patination consistent with copper oxidation. The broad, flat field and irregular flan edges are typical of the hammered technique employed at the Goa mint during the period 1816–1826. Overall, the reverse presents considerably better detail than the obverse on this example, with the sphere's equatorial band and rings partially visible.
