| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine detail on the Imperial State Crown, which features fleurs-de-lis, crosses pattée, and jewelled arching. The king's bare neck and naturalistic facial features reflect Percy Metcalfe's restrained, classical style. The engraver's initials 'PM' appear discreetly at the base of the neck truncation. The surrounding legend reads GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR, disposed in capital letters along the inner border of a finely toothed outer rim. |
