| Reverse description | A centrally placed Protea cynaroides (King Protea), the national flower of South Africa, rendered in fine detail with petals and leaves clearly delineated, engraved by George Kruger Gray with his initials KG visible in the field. Six bundles of fasces-like crossed staves radiate symmetrically around the floral motif, evoking the six provinces of the Union of South Africa. The bilingual legend SOUTH·AFRICA·SUID·AFRIKA arcs around the upper periphery with the date, while the denomination 6D appears at the base flanked by ornamental devices. |
