6 Pence - George V

Southern Rhodesia gained the right to issue its own coinage in 1932 following the establishment of responsible government in 1923 — a nine-year gap that reflects how cautiously the Colonial Office managed the transition of monetary authority to settler administrations. Before that, the territory circulated South African coinage as a matter of practicality. The Royal Mint struck these early Rhodesian issues in London, not at a branch mint.

The series was cut short by the realities of wartime silver conservation; later issues through the 1940s saw composition changes that the .925 standard of this founding run never survived.
