Additional information

New Zealand retained its pre-decimal silver-proportioned coinage weights and sizes when switching to copper-nickel in 1947, meaning this sixpence is dimensionally identical to its wartime predecessors but compositionally distinct. The transition was driven by postwar silver shortages and rising commodity prices globally, not any domestic policy preference.

The KM#26.1 and 26.2 distinction reflects a portrait modification — the Gillick effigy was subtly retooled during the series run, a change applied across multiple Commonwealth jurisdictions simultaneously in the mid-1950s.
