| Beschrijving voorzijde | The traditional wildman (Wilder Mann) of Brunswick heraldry stands facing, depicted as a nude, wreath-crowned figure holding an uprooted pine tree over his left shoulder, with the numeral '6' to the right in the field. Decorative foliage and the Brunswick arms appear at the base of the figure. The encircling Latin legend reads ERN AUG D G D BR & L S R I ELECT E P O, identifying Elector Ernest August by title, with a six-pointed star serving as an ornamental stop at the top of the legend. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Ernest August secured the Electoral dignity for Brunswick-Lüneburg in 1692 — the ninth Electorate of the Holy Roman Empire, and one extracted through years of costly political maneuvering and outright bribery of imperial officials. The 6 Mariengroschen issues of his final years were struck against that backdrop of legitimization, with Calenberg's mint working to project the authority of a newly elevated prince whose Electoral status remained bitterly contested by the existing Electors until after his death in 1698.
