| Descrizione del rovescio | Central device features the Imperial double-headed eagle displayed, with wings spread, each head surmounted by a crown and the whole topped by a central Imperial crown. The breast of the eagle bears an inescutcheon with the Austrian fess (horizontal bar). At the base of the eagle, the mintmark MM appears within a small oval cartouche. The date 1688 is divided across the upper field, flanking the crown, and the circumferential legend ARCHID.AVS.DVX.B.CO.TYR. encircles the design within a beaded border, expanding to Archidux Austriae Dux Burgundiae Comes Tyrolis. |

Leopold I's six-kreuzer pieces from this period were struck against the backdrop of sustained Ottoman pressure on the empire's eastern frontier, culminating in the 1683 siege of Vienna itself. Mint output fluctuated sharply around that year as silver supplies and administrative priorities shifted toward war finance.
The Vienna issues span a long enough run that die varieties within the Her#1134–1152 range show meaningful differences in mintmaster marks, making date and variety attribution the primary collector challenge here.
