The right hand holds a sceptre and the left hand a sword, with a long flowing scarf or mantle billowing behind the figure. Ferdinand II ruled Tyrol as an archduke from 1564 until his death in 1595, governing independently from the main Habsburg line in Vienna. His Tyrolean mint at Hall — one of the most technically advanced facilities in sixteenth-century Europe — was an early adopter of the screw press, and the county's silver output during his reign benefited directly from Fugger-controlled mining operations in the surrounding Alps.
The 6 Kreuzer denomination occupied an awkward middle ground in daily commerce, too large for petty transactions but too small for merchant accounting, which likely kept circulation heavy and survivors in lower grades.
