Additional information

Maximilian I of Bavaria was granted the Electoral dignity in 1623 — transferred forcibly from the defeated Frederick V following the Battle of White Mountain — and large-denomination gold patterns of this period functioned as much as political announcements as they did as coinage. A six-ducat piece in near-pure gold was not meant for commerce; it was a presentation object, struck in limited numbers for diplomatic gifts and court display.

Fr#189b distinguishes this as a pattern variant, separate from any authorized circulation striking. Fewer than a handful of confirmed examples are known across major collections.
