| Obverse description | Three-quarter facing armored bust of Margrave George Frederick of Baden-Durlach, turned slightly to the right, depicted in elaborate etched and embossed plate armor with richly decorated pauldrons and breastplate. The margrave holds an upright sword over his right shoulder, with the date 1610 divided across the field to either side of the figure. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the Latin legend inscribed along the outer periphery reading GEORG.FRID.D.G.MAR.BAD.ET.H.IN.S.V.L.LAND.GRAF.SVSENB.ETC. The portrait is rendered in the high-relief hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German goldsmithing. |
