Ladislaus II Jagiełło — king of Poland and Lithuania, victor at Grunwald in 1410 against the Teutonic Knights — was a recurring subject for Polish commemorative issues in the late communist period, when the state mint leaned heavily on medieval dynastic imagery to project continuity and national pride. This 1989 piece was struck in the final months before the Round Table Agreements fundamentally altered the political order, making it one of the last numismatic productions of the Polish People's Republic under that framework.
