5000 Tögrög Steppe Eagle

The steppe eagle (Aquila nipalensis) has long occupied a specific role in Mongolian falconry culture, particularly among Kazakh herders in the Bayan-Ölgii region, where the tradition of hunting with trained eagles persists to the present day. Mongolia's mid-1990s commemorative silver program was largely export-driven — these large-format pieces were sold through international numismatic distributors rather than circulated domestically, during a period when the tögrög itself was severely devalued following the end of Soviet subsidy dependence after 1991.
