| Additional information |
The 7th Asian Winter Games were held in Astana and Almaty in February 2011 — Kazakhstan's first time hosting the event, and a deliberate showcase of the country's winter sports infrastructure following its 1991 independence. This coin was issued the year prior in anticipation. At a kilogram of sterling silver and 100mm across, it sits at the extreme end of Kazakhstan's commemorative program, which has consistently favored oversized formats for major sporting and national events.
