The BEAC issues currency on behalf of six Central African nations — Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a monetary union established in 1972 and backed by the French Treasury through a fixed parity arrangement that still holds today.
