5000 Dram Armenian Alphabet - Դ

Part of the Central Bank of Armenia's long-running Armenian Alphabet series, which dedicates one coin to each of the 38 letters created by the scholar and monk Mesrop Mashtots in 405 AD. The series commemorates what is considered the single most consequential act of Armenian cultural preservation — an alphabet designed specifically to translate the Bible and resist the assimilating pressures of Persian and Byzantine influence on the Armenian church.

Դ is the fourth letter, representing the sound "d," and derives from the Greek delta in its ultimate origin, though Mashtots adapted the script into a distinctly Armenian form.
