The dotaku is depicted in three-quarter view, displaying its distinctive raised fin (sakana) and decorative band ornamentation. The upper field bears the legend 日 本 国 (State of Japan) in Japanese characters, flanked by the romanized prefecture name SHIMANE and the kanji 島根県 below. The denomination 五 百 円 (500 Yen) appears in the lower field, all set within the bimetallic coin's nickel-brass outer ring. |
