| Obverse description | Central design features a bell-shaped bronze dotaku vessel, as excavated from the Kamoiwakura site in Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture, rendered in fine relief with incised geometric patterns and pictograms characteristic of the Yayoi period. The dotaku is depicted in three-quarter view, displaying its distinctive raised fin (sakana) and decorative band ornamentation. The upper field bears the legend 日 本 国 (State of Japan) in Japanese characters, flanked by the romanized prefecture name SHIMANE and the kanji 島根県 below. The denomination 五 百 円 (500 Yen) appears in the lower field, all set within the bimetallic coin's nickel-brass outer ring. |
