Reverse description The central device, occupying the copper-nickel inner disc, depicts a stylised representation of a traditional Japanese cast Mon coin, featuring a square central hole surrounded by four kanji characters reading 地方自治 (local autonomy), incorporating latent image security features in the field. The nickel brass outer ring bears the legend JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM arcing along the upper periphery, with the denomination 500 YEN at lower left and the Japanese era date 平成27年 (Heisei year 27) at lower right, all within a beaded border. The issue sequence number (47/60) is incorporated into the design, identifying this as the forty-seventh coin in the sixty-coin series.
