Part of Mongolia's long-running lunar calendar bullion series, this issue marks the Year of the Dog under the traditional sexagenary cycle observed across East and Central Asia. Mongolia began producing these small-format gold pieces in the early 2000s, targeting the collector and gift market tied to Lunar New Year observance — a commercially shrewd move given Mongolia's geographic and cultural proximity to China, its largest trading partner.
