Reverse description The upper portion of the reverse displays a high-relief collage of historic Straits Times newspaper front pages arranged in a fan-like composition, rendered in fine detail against the mirror-polished field. Below, a stylized modern logo of The Straits Times — comprising three sweeping curved lines — occupies the central field. The founding and centenary years '1845' and '1995' flank the logo on either side. Along the lower rim, the inscriptions 'THE STRAITS TIMES' and '150 YEARS' are boldly engraved in Latin characters, while 'SINGAPORE' appears vertically along the left rim.

Additional information

Issued under Mongolia's mid-1990s commemorative program, which produced a remarkable volume of themed silver pieces aimed squarely at the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. This particular coin honors the Straits Times, the Singapore-based broadsheet founded in 1845, making it an unusual pairing — a landlocked Central Asian nation commemorating a Southeast Asian newspaper on a coin its own citizens would rarely handle or spend.

The series Mongolia ran through this period was largely contract-struck and distributed through overseas dealers, with Bank of Mongolia lending its issuing authority to topics chosen largely for export appeal.
