| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse features a detailed woodland landscape in high relief, dominated by tall conifer trees flanking both sides of the central design. At center, the Soyombo national emblem of Mongolia surmounts a lobed cartouche enclosing the cursive script legend 'Mongol Bank' in an ornate calligraphic style. Below the cartouche, the denomination '500' appears in large bold numerals, with 'ТӨГРӨГ' inscribed beneath in Cyrillic lettering. Traditional Mongolian script legends flank the central motif on the left and right. The lower exergue bears the inscription 'MONGOLIA 1oz .999 SILVER' in small Latin capitals, and the entire design is framed by a reeded outer border. |

The raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is native to East Asia including Mongolia, though it is far better known in Western numismatics as the subject of Japanese tanuki folklore coinage. Mongolia's wildlife series has drawn heavily on indigenous fauna that receive little international attention, and the raccoon dog — neither raccoon nor dog — occupies an odd taxonomic position as the only canid known to hibernate seasonally.
