Opmerkingen

Mongolia's 1990 transition from a Soviet-aligned command economy to a market system left Mongolbank scrambling to replace the Möngölt-era currency architecture almost entirely. The 500 Tögrög denomination entered circulation at a point when hyperinflationary pressure was acute — annual inflation exceeded 300% in 1993 — making this note's face value meaningful at issue and eroded within months.

Thomas De La Rue's involvement here is consistent with Mongolia's broader post-Soviet pivot toward Western security printing contracts, a shift shared by several former COMECON states in the early 1990s.
