The Bank of Mauritius has relied on Thomas De La Rue for much of its printing history, and this 2010 issue continues that relationship. De La Rue's Castafiore holographic stripe — or a variant of it — appears on notes of this generation, though the specific foil specification for Mauritius issues from this period is not always disclosed in public documentation.
At the 500-rupee level, these notes represent the upper end of everyday transactional currency in Mauritius rather than a high-denomination reserve instrument — meaningful given the island's heavy dependence on tourism revenue and the volume of mid-to-large retail transactions that denomination serves.
