| Reverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms, comprising the traditional shield quartered with castles and five escutcheons bearing bezants, is displayed centrally in the field, surmounted by a royal crown with arches and orb. The shield is flanked by symmetrical foliate branches — an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right — tied together at the base with a ribbon bow. The word PROVA appears in the upper field above the crown, and the denomination 500 REIS is inscribed along the lower exergual area in bold Roman capitals. |
