| 裏面の説明 | Central design featuring the quartered Royal Arms of the United Kingdom within an ornate shield, displaying in the first and fourth quarters three passant guardant lions of England, in the second quarter a rampant lion of Scotland, and in the third quarter a harp for Ireland. The shield is encircled by the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE and surmounted by the Imperial State Crown. Flanking the shield is elaborate acanthus and foliate scrollwork incorporating the Tudor rose and Scottish thistle as heraldic emblems, with the Royal Cypher 'CIIIR' beneath a crown to the sinister and a triquetra symbol to the dexter. Charles III was crowned on 6 May 2023 — the first British coronation in seventy years, and the first ever to be streamed live globally. The Royal Mint issued this piece as the top of a tiered coronation gold program, with the 156.3g weight corresponding to five troy ounces. Five-ounce gold proofs of this type are produced in strictly controlled, typically very low mintages, often under 100 pieces worldwide.
The obverse carries Jody Clark's effigy of Charles, the same portrait that had appeared on circulation coinage since 2015 — meaning it was already eight years in use before he ever sat on the throne.
