Obverse description Crowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, wearing St. Edward's Crown, rendered in high relief by sculptor Martin Jennings. The portrait captures the King's mature likeness with fine naturalistic detail across the facial features and crown ornamentation, including fleurs-de-lis, crosses pattée, and arched bands surmounted by a monde and cross. The engraver's initials 'MJ' appear in the lower field to the right of the truncation. The peripheral legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 500 POUNDS · 2023, arranged continuously around the effigy.
