The three-signature format on this note reflects an internal control structure the Banco de España maintained through the Franco period — Governor, sub-governor, and cashier each signing as a check on the others. Antonio Goicoechea Cosculluela, the Governor whose name leads the trio, was an unusual figure: a monarchist lawyer and politician who had been involved in negotiating German and Italian military support for Franco before the Civil War, rewarded with the governorship in 1939.
The López Sánchez-Toda brothers dividing engraving duties between obverse and reverse is worth noting — a family workshop arrangement not uncommon at the FNMT during this period.
