Bradbury Wilkinson produced this note at a moment when the Banco de España was still operating under the 1874 decree that had granted it monopoly over note issuance — a privilege consolidated after the collapse of rival provincial banks, several of which had issued notes backed by little more than optimism. The 1907 series was part of a broader reissue programme intended to replace worn stock from earlier decades, not to address any monetary emergency.
Sánchez-Guerra, whose signature appears here in his capacity as a bank official, later served as Prime Minister of Spain twice — an unusual biographical footnote for a note signatory.
