Obverse description A standing allegorical female figure occupies the left side of the note, while an oval vignette at upper right carries a portrait of the goddess Athena. In the lower right corner, three winged cherubs are shown engaged in scholarly pursuits — reading, painting, and playing the lyre — rendered in a fine intaglio engraving typical of the period.

Reverse description The central vignette presents a detailed intaglio view of the Alcázar of Segovia set within an oval frame, flanked by large numeral "500" counters at each corner against an intricate guilloche underprint in blue and orange. The bank title "BANCO DE ESPAÑA" arches across the top, with the denomination "QUINIENTAS PESETAS" inscribed along the lower margin. The printer's imprint of Bradbury Wilkinson & Company Ltd., London, appears at the bottom edge.
