| Obverse description | Central depiction of the iconic facade of the Ruins of St. Paul's (Ruinas de S. Paulo), rendered in fine relief with architectural detailing of the Baroque stonework, arched entrance, niches, and stepped approach. The legend MACAU arcs across the upper field in bold raised letters, flanked on either side by a decorative ring of six-pointed stars. The inscription RUINAS DE S. PAULO appears along the lower field, with the date 1978 prominently placed in the exergue. A reeded border surrounds the entire design. |

Macau's annual Grand Prix commemoration series began in 1978, and this particular variant — struck without sponsor logos — emerged from a licensing dispute that was never fully resolved in the public record. The logoed version exists in far smaller numbers, making the attribution of "rarer" between the two types genuinely contested among specialists. KM#13 does not distinguish between variants, and Gomes R 69.01 treats the logo-free type as the primary issue.
