| Obverse description | Central device comprising a large crescent and five-pointed star, symbols of Islam, flanked on the left by a date palm and on the right by a spray of millet or acacia, evoking the agricultural and natural wealth of Mauritania. Two commemorative dates in Latin numerals appear in the upper field: 1975-11-28 above 1960-11-28, marking respectively the fifteenth anniversary and the date of independence. The Arabic legend along the lower periphery reads the full official name of the issuing state. |
