Beschrijving voorzijde Printed in black on a polychrome underprint using intaglio (calcography) and lithography techniques, the obverse centres on a vignette of a female allegorical bust representing the Republic and Liberty — derived from a composition by Paul Thumann — flanked on both sides by the denomination numeral 500. The upper and lower margins carry the full statutory text of the issuing authority, the Caixa de Estabilização, with references to the authorising legislation (Law No. 5108 of 18 December 1926), while the imprint of the American Bank Note Company appears at the foot of the note.

Beschrijving keerzijde Printed in blue using intaglio (calcography), the reverse is dominated by a large central vignette reproducing the celebrated painting Batalha do Riachuelo (Battle of Riachuelo), completed in 1872 by the Brazilian master Victor Meirelles de Lima (1832–1903), which commemorates the decisive naval engagement of the Paraguayan War. The issuer's title and the printer's imprint are inscribed in the upper and lower borders respectively.
