At left, a framed intaglio portrait vignette of a young Slovenian man in traditional alpine dress with a felt hat, set within an ornate scrollwork border. The central panel carries the title DENARNA NAKAZNICA above a guilloche-framed denomination numeral 500 with the legend LIR PETSTO; below, a six-line Slovenian text clause references coverage by the Banca d'Italia and issuance authority of the Chef of the Provincial Administration in Ljubljana, dated 14. IX. 1944. The issuing institution HRANILNICA LJUBLJANSKE POKRAJINE is printed in bold letterpress, with signature lines for Predsednik and Glavni ravnatelj beneath. Hranilnica Ljubljanske Pokrajine was the savings institution set up under Italian occupation of the Ljubljana Province — after the Italian armistice in September 1943, the region passed to German control under Operationszone Adriatisches Küstenland, and this note was issued during that transitional German administration period. The bilingual institution name, carrying both the Slovenian and German designations, was a deliberate administrative signal about who governed whom.
Janez Trpin was a Slovenian graphic artist — his involvement points to local design talent being used under occupation conditions rather than imported German printing expertise. The note did not circulate long before the liberation of Slovenia in May 1945 rendered it obsolete.
