The Czech and Slovak Federative Republic's late-socialist commemorative program produced a number of silver issues in the final years before the Velvet Revolution of November 1989, and this 500 Korun piece falls squarely in that window. The federation it celebrates would cease to exist entirely by January 1, 1993, dissolved peacefully — the so-called Velvet Divorce — into two independent states, making the issuing authority itself a historical artifact within five years of striking.
