| Opis rewersu | The reverse is a mirror-image typographic impression of the obverse text, visible as a blue-grey letterpress show-through on the plain paper ground, with the denomination "Fünf Hundert Gulden" and flanking oval cartouches reading 500 appearing in reverse. An ornamental crowned vignette is printed at the upper centre, and a blank oval seal outline is positioned at the lower centre. The overall layout mirrors the obverse in a ghost-print fashion typical of early nineteenth-century Austrian note production. |

The Privilegirte Oesterreichische National-Bank was established in 1816 specifically to stabilize Austrian finances after the catastrophic Bancozettel inflation of the Napoleonic wars, during which the state had been forced to devalue paper currency by 80 percent through the 1811 Finanzpatent. These early gulden notes were part of that recovery effort — issued with hard convertibility obligations the bank struggled to honor in practice.
Danzinger was among the most prominent Viennese engravers of the period. At 500 Gulden, this was a very high denomination for domestic circulation in 1825, effectively a merchant and institutional instrument rather than anything passing through ordinary hands.
