| Mô tả mặt trước | The central field displays the national coat of arms of Rwanda, depicting a traditional thatched hut flanked by a sorghum plant on the left and a coffee branch on the right, set against two crossed inward-facing crescents and surmounted by a radiant sun with the scroll legend REPUBULIKA Y'U RWANDA above. A knotted rope device appears at the base of the shield with the national motto UBUMWE · UMURIMO · GUKUNDA IGIHUGU on a scroll beneath. The arms are encircled by a plain inner ring, with the outer border featuring a continuous sawtooth or zigzag decorative pattern around the entire periphery. The legend BANQUE NATIONALE DU RWANDA curves along the upper portion of the coin, with the date 2002 prominently displayed at the base. |

| Thông tin bổ sung |
Rwanda's 2002 coinage program was produced during the country's slow institutional reconstruction following the 1994 genocide, in which the banking and monetary infrastructure had been almost entirely destroyed. The Banque Nationale du Rwanda resumed issuing commemorative silver pieces in this period partly to generate foreign exchange through collector sales — a revenue stream that several post-conflict African states relied on heavily when domestic economies remained too fractured to support conventional fiscal tools.
