Chad's CFA franc is issued under the authority of the Bank of Central African States, but the novelty coinage program — of which this piece is a part — is licensed through private minting arrangements with European firms targeting the collector market rather than circulation. The Italian bottle cap motif belongs to a broader series of such issues exploiting Chad's relatively permissive approach to novelty legal tender authorization.
