| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is dominated by large guilloche-filled numeral "500" vignettes in green and red-brown tones occupying the central field, with the three-language bank title inscribed in script across the upper portion. At right, an intaglio portrait of a young woman in traditional Swiss dress — the "Apple Harvester" — is rendered in fine recess-engraved detail against a red-brown background, accompanied by a white cross emblem below. The denomination, date, place of issue, and three facsimile signature lines appear along the lower margin, with the serial number printed twice in dark ink. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse presents a large allegorical scene rendered in intaglio, after a composition by Pierre Gauchat, illustrating figures in classical and pastoral style gathered around a flowering tree and a wooden tub — an allegory of abundance and the harvest. To the left, a vertical guilloche panel bears the repeated denomination "500" in ornate script alongside the three-language bank title. The overall palette is red-brown with contrasting green elements in the security underprint. |

The 5th series was commissioned in the late 1940s as Switzerland rebuilt its currency infrastructure after wartime disruptions to normal banking operations. Waterlow & Sons — the London firm responsible for the notorious Portuguese escudo overprint scandal of 1925 — had by this period rehabilitated its reputation and was handling high-security work for several European central banks. Harold Bard's intaglio engraving on this note is precise enough to reward close examination under magnification.
Nine valid signature combinations across three dates make this one of the more complex signing arrangements within the series, reflecting the SNB's collegial directorate structure.
