| Obverse description | Portrait of an African woman in traditional dress and beaded jewelry at left, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The central vignette presents a lakeside scene at sunset with a large watermark void circle, various wading birds and flamingos in flight across the middle ground, and a stork at the water's edge at right. Geometric guilloche panels in red and ochre frame the note at upper left and right corners, with the denomination numeral 500 repeated at each corner. |

The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — the BEAC — replaced the earlier BCEAEC structure in 1972 as part of a broader realignment of the franc zone in central Africa, and this note belongs to the transitional series that followed. Chad's inclusion in a shared regional currency bloc has always sat uneasily alongside its political instability; by the mid-1970s the country was already deep in civil conflict, and much of the note-issuing apparatus functioned at a remove from a government that controlled only parts of its own territory.
Two signature combinations are recorded for P#2, reflecting successive appointments within the BEAC's administrative structure during the issue window.
