Obverse description Central field features a circular raised border enclosing the denomination numeral 500 in Eastern Arabic numerals above the Arabic word فلس (Fils), set within a plain inner circle. Surrounding the central device, the Arabic legend الجمهورية العراقية (Republic of Iraq) arcs across the upper field, while the lower field carries the commemorative inscription أحياء بابل أثريا واجب وطني و قومي و انساني (The restoration of Babel is a national, pan-Arab and humanitarian duty), all rendered in a bold Arabic calligraphic script. The square flan with rounded corners is bordered by a continuous milled rim along all four sides.
