Descrizione del dritto	Central oval intaglio portrait vignette of Georgios Stavros set against an elaborate multicolour guilloche underprint with rosette patterns flanked by architectural column motifs. Denomination numeral '500' appears in dark guilloche cartouches at left and right. A red letterpress overprint reading 'ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ' crosses the centre of the note, replacing the original issuing bank name, with the legend 'ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ ΠΕΝΤΑΚΟΣΙΑΙ' inscribed on a panel below the portrait. Three manuscript signatures appear at the foot of the note.

Descrizione del rovescio	Central scenic vignette of the Byzantine Church of the Holy Apostles in Thessaloniki (Άγιοι Απόστολοι Θεσσαλονίκης), rendered in a detailed intaglio landscape with arched portico in the foreground. Two large ancient griffin figures in intaglio stand guard at the far left and far right of the composition. A red letterpress overprint of 'ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ' appears in mirror image across the upper portion of the reverse, with the inscription 'ΕΚΔΟΣΙΣ ΕΝΔΕΚΑΤΗ' on a panel at the lower centre.

Commenti	Greece's stabilization loan of 1927–28, brokered under League of Nations supervision, was the direct catalyst for this series. The Bank of Greece itself had only been established in 1928, carved out of the old National Bank of Greece specifically to serve as a central bank with exclusive note-issuing authority — meaning this note is among the first ever issued under the institution's name. ABNC's involvement was not incidental. Greek authorities deliberately contracted an American printer to signal distance from the inflationary chaos of the early 1920s, when the drachma had collapsed under wartime debt and the catastrophic costs of the Asia Minor campaign. The choice carried political weight beyond mere production logistics. Pick #99 is the 500-drachmai denomination of that inaugural ABNC contract.
