By 1991, Yugoslavia was disintegrating politically and economically simultaneously. This note was issued into an inflation spiral that would eventually render the entire dinar series worthless within months — the 500 Dinara denomination, meaningful at printing, became effectively negligible before many examples had a chance to circulate meaningfully. ZIN in Belgrade continued producing notes for the Federal government even as the republics were seceding, making the late issuances from this period something of a printer's exercise in futility.
Hrvanović's engraving work on the obverse is the one element that outlasted the currency itself in terms of craft reputation.
