| Obverse description | Green-grey intaglio and offset print on polychrome underprint, centred on an oval vignette with a portrait of Dom João VI (João Maria José Francisco Xavier de Paula Luís António Domingos Rafael). The upper border carries the legend "REPÚBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL" above the promise text "SE PAGARÁ AO PORTADOR DESTA A QUANTIA DE", while the lower area bears the denomination inscription "QUINHENTOS CRUZEIROS VALOR RECEBIDO".
