Obverse description Printed in dark blue on pale brownish paper with a fine guilloche underprint, this uniface Notgeld note carries the heading "Notgeldschein des Freistaates Mecklenburg-Schwerin" at the top, with the denomination "Fünfhunderttausend Mark" in large Gothic blackletter script and the numeral "500000" repeated at lower left and right. A circular official seal of the Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches Staatsministerium appears at lower left, accompanied by five facsimile ministry signatures below the issuer's name and the date "Schwerin, den 10. August 1923." A large circular cancellation stamp inscribed "FREISTAAT MECKLENBURG SCHWERIN" is struck across the centre of the face.

Reverse description The reverse bears the printed face of an earlier 100 Mark Notgeld note dated 29 September 1922, rendered invalid by a bold black diagonal cross printed across the entire surface — this note having been produced by overprinting on unissued stock of that earlier issue.
