Križevčanka was a socially-owned retail and wholesale enterprise based in Križevci, a small town in northern Croatia. During the severe Yugoslav inflation of the early 1980s — and more acutely the hyperinflationary spiral that accelerated through the late 1980s — enterprises across Yugoslavia issued internal meal coupons and purchasing vouchers to insulate workers' real wages from daily price fluctuations. By the time denominations like 500,000 dinara were necessary for a single warm meal, the federal government had already lost effective control over monetary policy.
The OOUR designation — Osnovna Organizacija Udruženog Rada, the basic organizational unit of Yugoslav self-management socialism — places this squarely in the Titoist economic structure that was already visibly failing when this coupon circulated.
