Part of NBP's ongoing "Little Homelands" regional series, this issue commemorates Wrocław — a city whose post-war identity was rebuilt almost entirely from scratch after 1945, when the former German Breslau was repopulated with Poles expelled from Lwów and other eastern territories annexed by the Soviet Union. The cultural transplantation was so deliberate and total that the incoming population brought physical objects — books, icons, university archives — from Lwów specifically to reconstitute institutions in the new city.
The selective gilding technique used on this 62.2g piece is applied at the Mennica Polska mint in Warsaw, which has held the NBP's collector coin contract since the 1990s.
