Beschrijving keerzijde Three galloping horses are depicted in high relief across the rectangular field, rendered in a dynamic and flowing artistic style evocative of traditional Chinese equestrian painting. The horses move energetically from left to right, conveying power and grace in the spirit of the Chinese lunar Year of the Horse. The denomination 50元 (50 Yuan) appears in the upper right field, with the cyclical characters 壬午 (Renwu, the Chinese sexagenary year corresponding to the Horse year) inscribed directly below.

Aanvullende informatie

China's Lunar Series silver kilo coins (of which this 5 oz piece is part) were issued by the People's Bank of China under a program that expanded dramatically through the 1990s and into the 2000s as international collector demand for Chinese precious metal issues grew. The 2002 Horse issue coincides with the Year of the Ren Wu — the yang water horse — the 7th year in the 60-year sexagenary cycle, not merely the 7th in the 12-year zodiac rotation.

Mintages for these issues were tightly controlled and never published with full transparency by the PBC, a consistent policy that has fueled secondary market speculation for decades.
